Presses are forming machine tools used to change the shape of any workpiece. Presses are categorised according to various constraints such as mechanism of work, function, structure and controllability.
As per their functions presses are of 4 types; punch press, forging press, press brakes and stamping presses. Whereas mechanism wise they are of three kinds such as pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical presses.
According to the controllability they are servo presses and conventional presses, whereas structural point of view screw press and knuckle joint presses are categorised.
A shop press is a simple frame that is manufactured by fabricating steel along with a hydraulic cylinder or a bottle jack. Machine shop, automobile mechanic shop and basement or garage shops use this kind of presses.
With a punch press you make holes, whereas stamping press is for shaping and cutting metal by the process of deforming, using a die. A press frame, ram and a bolster plate are the equipment for this press.
Press brake is a special press that bends sheet metal into shape, they also have CNC controls and accurately manufacture minute products. Capping presses are used to manufacture caps from foils of aluminium at a rate of 660 pieces per minute.
Servo presses are electro presses running on AC servo motor, where the torque is converted to linear force through a ball screw. Its best feature is low power consumption, working in a noise free and clean environment.
