Metal Forging Creating A World Of Your Own

Metal forging or mechanical metal presses are creating a storm in the industry. Manufacturers of these metal presses are developing the latest type of metal forging equipment and tools to meet the industry needs.Mechanical servo drive technology is used to bring straight sided metal forming presses. These metal presses offer the flexibility that you obtain from a hydraulic press with infinite ram speed and position control as well as presence of press force at any slide position. The accuracy, reliability and speed remains like a mechanical press.

These metal forgings have the efficiency to enhance process conditions and productivity in metal forming. Metal forging is the oldest form of metalworking process, utilised by the mankind since the prehistoric age, heating and hammering are the major processes involved with it. Metal forging involves deformation of any material or metal between two dies, in order to achieve desired shape and size.

There two kinds of metal forgings, closed and open forging. The metal is compresses by frequent blows by a mechanical hammer, while the shape is manually manipulated in open die forging. Squeezing the workpiece between two shaped and closed dies is performed to obtain the desired configuration in closed metal forging.

Mechanical metal presses have their own way of performing various tasks to form new shapes and structures of metals. In metal forging the die cavity gets completely filled when it is squeezed, the excess material comes out and trimmed at the periphery.

Closed metal forging is again categories into 2 segments; drop and press forging. Both hydraulic and mechanical press forging the metal is slowly squeezed to produce the product in a single closing, to offer accurate dimensions than drop forging.

Fullering, edging, radial forging, swaging, heading, cogging and upsetting are the most common forms of metal forging.
