Importance of Lubricating Bearings

Bearings are a crucial component of machines, as they determine the type of operation, motion flow and direction of load applied within a machine. The simple fact behind applying lubrication on bearings is to prevent them from corrosion. In order to attain premium results and ensure accuracy in performance lubrication is a cost efficient solution. We often overlook the impacts but once lubrication is introduced in bearings it affects their speed, torque, noise as well as corrosion.

Generally as lubrication is done widely there are two standard lubricants available oil and grease. However determining what should be used when is the real task. Also often to make this decision it is appropriate to know what is the application as this simplifies what to choose.

Oil: It is not the regular oil that we use in household, industrial lubricating oil is different. So it is customised to suit the demands of ball bearings specifically. Primitively all the oils were largely modified from petrol. But today diesters, fluorine and silicon polymers are used to make variety of oils, which ensure lubrication is done and the bearings function smoothly. However also oils made from variety of materials are appreciated largely, as they have the capacity to withstand low temperature and viscosity.

Grease: This is oil too, however to restraint it from flowing constantly to make them heavier metallic soaps, synthetic fillers are used. However as compared to oil grease is widely used as it can deliver better results in higher torque and lower displacement.

Lubrication is very important so has become one of the most essential practices, if you wish to secure bearings as it is the only simple and cost efficient way than replacing a bearing. However as there are varied kinds of lubricants it is very important to choose the best that suits the particular kind of bearing s that you wish to use. Also never adulterate greases by mixing them with each other, as sometimes mixing may cause them to solidify and turn into wax, thus completely making bearing. Always remove old grease and replace it with the new one if needed.
