Various electrical Measuring and Testing Equipment and their use

Measuring and testing instruments are the bare essential things across industries. From your home utilities to large manufacturing plants, there is always the need of some or the other kind of testing and measuring instruments. They might work to gauge the perfectness of machineries or to determine the amount of materials, their state, temperature and consistency to meet the manufacturing requirements in plants.

Let’s go through some of the most used testing and measuring equipment;

Insulation and continuity tester is an essential tool for Electrical testing and measuring.Likewise there are two-pole voltage testers, continuity testers, digital multimeters, socket and RCD testers, current clamps.

The difference between a two-pole voltage tester and measuring instrument is they follow different norms.Voltage testers are meant to offer safety and maximum functionality for desired applications.Measuring instruments hardly comply with the standards of a voltage tester.

Apart from the above there are measuring and testing instruments such as universal clamp meter with residual current measurement, earth loop testers, three-phase test adapters, microprocessor controlled RCD tester, digital read-out RCD tester, RCD sensitivity tester.

A universal clamp meter is used to measure the residual current, by clamping the neutral and active conductors.Earth loop testers are meant to find out the fault loop impedance in an electrical circuit.

With the three-phase test adapters enable testing of 3-phase RCD outlets without altering or disconnecting them. Microprocessor controlled RCD testers are the best equipment to measure the tripping time of RCDs accurately.

Digital read-out RCD tester is having 6 trip current settings, checks polarity with an indicator, a selector switch to test negative or positive half cycle.

An RCD sensitivity tester tests that the RCDs perform as per the standard set for them. A predefined set of leakages need to be injected to gauge the fault finding system.
