Mica powder is a product that has
wide number of applications in various industries. It is made from silicate
minerals and comes in many colours as well as textures. Silicate mineral is a
kind of rock which contains the mixture of different elements in it which give
it different colours and different properties. When these silicate rocks are
crushed, Mica powder or flakes are formed thus giving them different colours
and it is used as per the requirement of different industries.
Mica based silicate rocks were first
found in European countries and because of its limited production, it is very
costly. After it was discovered in Africa and South American countries, it
became available for large production and today it is being used in large
number applications.
Mica Powder has also been a part of
ancient history. It is found engraved in many caves painting all around the
world, especially in Asian countries where mica is found in limited quantity
but its usage is being done since ages.
Mica powder is available in market in
mainly two forms: Wet Mica powder and Dry Mica Powder; they both are used in
different industries with a slight difference. Industries that use this product
are Paints, Automobile, Welding Electrodes, Rubber, Oil Well Drillings,
Decorative, Automotive Acoustics, Plastics, rolled roofing, asphalt shingles
and Gypsum Plasterboards. Micronized Mica powder is also a form of this product
which is exclusively used in Paint to retain its colour and texture.
Sometimes, Mica powder is substituted
with other elements like perlite, diatomite and vermiculite for filling
substance. As Mica powder is formed by grating of silicate minerals which can
have side effects on human beings when exposed to large duration. It can
produce itching and can be allergic to skin and eyes of human beings as well. The
best thing would be to use this product with precaution so as to get the
benefits of the same.
