Galvanization is the process of dipping iron, steel and carbon rods in a zinc solution. Through galvanization, these metal wires get more strength as well as safety and do have superior quality as compared to other metal rods. These galvanized wires provides excellent resistant to moisture and mechanical damage. They provide smooth and bright surface finish.

Wires are now galvanized through 2 processes:

• Hot Dip Galvanized Wires, where coating is done through dipping of wire in hot zinc solutions. The main applications of these types of galvanized wires are in Trolleys, Bailing wires; Poultry mesh chain link fencing, stranded ropes, mesh wires, stay wires, baskets and telephone wires etc.
• Electro-Galvanized wires: In this, coating is done by using the method of electro-chemical process. These wires are mostly used in kitchenware and for household purpose as well. 

Wires can also be coated from other minerals and metals but they cannot give protection as much as zinc coating provides because of the unique quality that zinc contains. Galvanized wires thus, are also used in the area where corrosion is relatively high like salt water, chemical and gas exposure, and other environmental factors like presence of sulfur dioxide in air. Another main area of galvanized wire is for the protection of high value paintings and pictures on the wall. Even mirrors and other objects can also be protected that can fall and cause injury. Another major use of galvanized wire is its use in constructional and building purpose. Having the property of being strongest, rust free in all weather conditions and durability; it is used as a supporting material to bind construction material. Third major applicability of galvanized wire is protection. For its greater strength, it is used as protective fences in homes, cages for animals and suspension bridges.
