7 step tutorial to make your own cushion cover at home!

Making cushion covers can be fun and also gives a chance to show your creativity. It is the fastest and easiest way of giving a makeover to your room.

Things you will need are as follows:
  • A sewing machine or a needle and thread
  • Fabric of your choice • Cushion stuffing
  • Embellishments (ribbon, buttons, beads, etc.)
  • Miscellaneous (scissors, pins, bobbin, chalk, zipperetc.)
Step by step tutorial:
  1. Size the cover- Take the measurement (length, breadth) of the cover. Mark the size using a chalk and cut the material in two parts in a proper shape and size as you like.
  2. Sew the material together- Pin the pieces together and stitch the material except for one side where u will sew the buttons or ribbon ties or add a zipper later.
  3. Plan the design- Plan a design on a paper first and then draw the design on the cover with a chalk.
  4. Sew on the motifs- Embellishments such as beads, ribbon, different shapes of motifs such as heart shaped, flower shaped, etc. are to be stitched by hand.
  5. Add the zipper or buttons or ribbon ties: Zipper has to be sewed whereas buttons and ribbon ties are sewed by hand.
  6. Add the piping cord- This is an optional step. If you need a neat and professional look, then adding the piping cord to the cover will serve your purpose. It comes in different sizes and materials. Paper braided cord, synthetic piping cord, cotton twist cord are some of the types of piping cords available.
  7. Cushion stuffing- Fit the stuffing in by just inserting it into the cover. However if it comes without a lining, then make a lining in the same manner as the cover to avoid lumpy appearance of the cushion.
Just follow the steps given and show your creativity by making unique homemade cushion covers at home to give an individual flair. They can brighten up the room at a fraction of the cost of purchasing them at a store.
