Tips for taking care of your leather bags

Leather bags can be a costly investment and the one who buys will most likely want to take care of it and prevent it from any damage. However, they can be maintained for years if you care them properly. Here are some important tips to ensure your bag lasts for years to come.
  • These bags are susceptible to absorbing oil and grease. They can easily get stained or smudged. So they should be handled with clean hands, when they are light coloured in particular. You can wipe the surface of the bag with a damp cloth. Take care you don’t take too much water as they take time to dry.
  • Clean them with leather cleaner. Apply the soap with a damp cloth and wipe it off so that it doesn’t clog the pores. Clean your bags often and don’t wait until they become dirty. You can also moisturise it to using a moisturizer specially made for leather. Moisturizing keep the leather supple.
  • If you notice stains on your bag, remove them as soon as you see them. Chalk powder is a good remedy to get rid of the stains caused by food or blood. Keeping the chalk powder on the stain overnight will help you with it.
  • Whenever you buy a new bag, have you ever wondered why it is full of stuffing? Stuffing such as papers, old T-shirts or even a bubble wrap. Because stuffing you bad with these helps in holding its shape and prevent it from those awful creases.
  • Storage- Last but not the least, storing your bags is important as it can prolong the life of your bag by protecting it from getting scuffed or scratched. Store it in a dust bag to keep it dust-free or natural fabric pillow case.
Other important tips and warnings: You can also use a leather protective spray for finished leather if you use it frequently or on an everyday basis. Keep cosmetics, pens and anything that leaks in a pouch. Refrain from using products with alcohol, turpentine or other spirits as they discolour and dry out leather.
